In continuation of my Confidential Despatch
of the 27th. ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that in answer to enquiries addressed by me to the Captain Superintendent of Police whether there was any record in the Cheung Chau Police Station books of a visit by either Sir Li. Nathan or Sir F. Lugard to the Station; and whether there was any record of permission having been granted by the Captain Superintendent of Police to Sergeant Angus, the first Folice Officer to occupy the matshed, to erect it, Mr. Bad eley wrote that there was no record of a visit by Sir L. Nathan but that Sir F. Lugard had visited the Station on the 2nd. June, 1911; that there was an official record in the Police Daily Report of occurrences which is sent daily to the Colonial Secretary of the blowing down of the matshed on 29th. July, 1908; and that "permission was obtained from the Director of Public Works. "I remember passing that paper to Police Sergeant Angus. I asked "P. S. Angus about it a few days ago when he surprised me by "saying that the same paper (a loose sheet) contained the approval "of the Government signified by the signature of the Colonial "Secretary, as well as that of the Director of Public Works. He
"says he retained the paper and had it by him all the time he was "quartered at Cheung Chau. I knew that I had passed him the "Director of Public Works' permit but had quite forgotten that the
